Nevada Test Sites

The Nevada Test Site, a United States Department of push reservation located in southeastern Nevada, about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas was recently established by Harry Truman on December 18, 1950 for the hearing of nuclear devices. The testing area spans 1,360  straight miles containing both desert and mountainous terrains within a alternatively remote area of the state on the Nellis Air make Gunnery and Bombing Range. Driving in on the tour bus, numerous of the bombed sites are covered with subsidence craters from testing and look contrary anything I have ever seen. This site holds the responsibility the first-string testing location of American nuclear devices. Despite beingness in a relatively remote area, prior to advent to the test site, I was able to see gigantic mushroom obnubilate clouds from Las Vegas in my hotel room. It had go very apparent to me that this was becoming a growing tourist attraction. Such a big cloud truly was a sight to see, and rumor has it, the clouds can be seen from over 100 miles in any direction. The tour lookout explained that the force that was released by these bombs was very small compared to the tremendous forces released by the large fission and hydrogen weapons that were being tested in the Pacific, a somewhat terrifying thought.



Touring these test grounds was an stupefying experience, and being one of many who was able to witness an explosion. In my case, during the bomb testing, I was given a radiation mark which collected radiation similar to many of those who lived close to the test site. These badges were to be later collected by the Atomic zipper commission, as they would gather information about the radiation emitted from the tests. People, including me, were belt up unaware of what dangers these bombs were capable of.
