Chapter 1 analysis & Terms
In the first Chapter of Bellahs Religion In Human Evolution, the first idea we grab from this chapter is what righteousness really is. Bellah says, It is a system of beliefs and practices relative to the sacred that unite those who wedge to them in a moral community. Then he proposes the school principal about the sacred. My definition of religion comp bes to Bellahs. I think religion is the beliefs and rituals people follow according to their God. My definition of sacred is fundamentally setting one thing apart from everything else.
As the chapter goes on, Bellah begins to recognize what the field of daily feel really is. Life is fundamentally the ability to consume and use energy for self-perspectives. Examples of daily life include working, going to school, sleeping, etc. Life is one of the close important and common things in all humans. After cultivation about Bellah and his view on the world of daily life, I took one thing out of that. I learned that everything we actually do in this world has a meaning/purpose. We do everything whether it is eating, sleeping, arguing, complaining, for a reason. On page 5, Bellah introduces B-cognition [Being cognition] and D-cognition [Deficiency cognition].

D-cognition is basically the definition of the world of daily life. It is the recognition of what is lacking and what must be make up through striving. In other words, this is basically the ask of survival, and how we must prolong those needs.
The next idea Bellah introduces in this chapter was the 3 theories of religion. These religion theories are propositional, experiential expressive approach, and cultural-linguistic. He states that these theories are a better way of understanding what religion is. Then, he introduces unitive and enactive representation. To sum it all up, unitive representation is about learning the importance of religion, represented by symbols.
