Introduction For this project I was required to write an naming and discuss how I would ensure, as Master, that an effective safety prudence system (SMS) is in place and that you exceed the requirements of any porthole State Control inspection. In order for me to complete this assigning I had to carry out research on the ISM code, SOLAS requirements and reasons why vessels were falling short and being detained upon inspections by the style State. In 2010 deficiencies in safety areas such as biography saving appliances, fire fighting equipment, alarm signals, structural safety, accounted for 21.2% of the organic number of deficiencies. The number of deficiencies in these areas decreased almost 13.
1% from 15,800 in 2009 to 13,728 in 2010 (Rooduijn communicatie & design, 2010). I decided to explore the area of safety and Fire Appliances. The reason I have chosen this egress is because, as an officer in the company I am employed with it is one of my duties to carry out inspections and maintenance of the flavor saving appliances and fire fighting equipment. My aim is to develop a plan that I could apply to a vessel which has been detained in a port due to Safety and Fire Appliances deficiencies.
